How to Play Firefight

The Fireteams of the Civil War are designed with a slightly higher points limit in mind, reflecting the elite nature of the Founder’s superhuman warriors. For smaller games, start at 300 points and for proper Firefights 400, 500 points.

⚔ Light Skirmish → 300pt

⚔ Medium Skirmish → 400pt

⚔ Critical Operation → 500pt (4' × 5' board recommended)

Playing Civil War Battles

The Armies of the Civil War are designed for various ways of play, including crossplay with other armybooks, small patrols or even great multi-table games.

⚔ Small Battle → 1000pt

⚔ Medium Battle → 2000pt

⚔ Large Battle → 3000pt

⚔ Critical Battle → 4000pt

⚔ Epic Battles → 10000 - 15000pt (4' × 12' board recommended)

In addition, these rules from the Advanced Rules are well-suited for creating a fully immersive and narrative Civil War game experiences:

Advanced Missions- p.23 -recommended

Prepare for sabotage, assasinations, or glorious last stands. Assaulting outposts for resources, while prolonged missions demand cunning for complex scoring.

Advanced Deployment- p.20 -recommend

Advanced deployment allows for spearheads, flanking, or sudden ambushes. Positioning your fireteams carefully is as vital as their firepower.

Battlefield Effects- p.34 -recommend

The battlefield itself can shift the course of wars. A warp storm may cause catastrophic damage, while heavy rain decreases your guns effectivity. Roll for unique environmental conditions each game, with immersive and strategic effects.

Random Events- p.36

The Civil War is brutal. At the start of each round, roll for events. Rifts might manifest, or friendly fire may occur. Traitors or cowards might be hiding within your ranks. CAUTION: These events inject unpredictability to the battlefield.

Boarding Actions- p.47 -recommend

Confined unforgiving corridors of warships and space stations. Equip your team with teleporting devices or sabotaging explosives for hard to breach hacthes.

Campaign Rules- p.54

Each battle shapes the course of a great campaign. Gain rewards and power, or suffer many scars. Your fireteams evolve, gain gear, experience, and new gadgets.

Simplified System Damage- p.43 -recommend

Penetrations may disable engines or cripple your tank. Adapt and persevere. When units with Tough(6) or higher take X or more wounds, they get the following:

• 3 Wounds = -2” Move

• 6 Wounds = -2” Move, -1 Quality

• 9 Wounds = -2” Move, -1 Quality

• 12 Wounds = -4” Move, -1 Quality

• 15 Wounds = -4” Move, -2 Quality

• 18 Wounds = -4” Move, -2 Quality

• 21 Wounds = -6” Move, -2 Quality

Additionally, whenever a unit with Tough(6) or higher is destroyed,

all units within X/2” must take a Dangerous Terrain test, where X is

the unit’s Tough(X) value.

Heresy Units Equivalents

The team has made great efforts to include as much material from across the history of the Heresy as possible. In addition to Horus Heresy 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, we've drawn inspiration from Liber Panoptica, Rogue Trader, Dark Heresy, Horus Heresy: Legions Card Game, Legions Imperialis, Space Hulk, and numerous other official and community sources wherever they helped expand on the character of units or whole rosters. You may notice that some unit names or entries differ from their Horus Heresy counterparts. In most cases, these changes were made to keep the adaptations style consistent, original and for better unity of the material from many different sources, game systems or fundamentally different rules and mechanics.

Many unit names have been adapted differently for various reasons. Here's a chart of units and their Heresy equivalents for ease of use, ex.:
